Question
I have a product that I have developed over the course of 2/3 years in my spare time and wish to bring it to market.
I won’t reveal the nature of the product, but it is training based built around PowerPoint and Excel worksheets averaging around 3 to 5mb, and at the moment I have upwords of 10,000 separate files.
My question to you all is, does a service exist to allow me to upload all of these, categorise them nicely together so customers can buy them as ‘packs’ or ‘individually’, and handle all payments and delivery of the files? Ideally I could use my own domain name aswell.
I am UK based but would push to US services if cost differences are obvious.
Thank you for your time!
Answer
What you’re looking for is an eCommerce platform. There are plenty (you can go shopping
The platform that I know the best is the company I worked for in the last 5 years: www.plimus.com
You can easily open a vendor account, setup your products (upload them), add a CD option, EDW (extended download warranty), bundles, promotions etc.
After you sign up you can get a UI team that will customize your Buynow-page to make it have the same “look and feel” of your web-site. and I can go on and on in regards to all the advantages. The main thing is, you don’t pay anything until you start selling. no setup fee, no hidden fees, nothing!
The business model of Plimus is that you pay a commission out of any sale – so it’s in Plimus’s best interest to help you sell as much as you can.
It’s not MY website and I don’t get commission or anything, but I truly believe in the company I work for. so feel free to ask me any question in regards.
To show that I’m not promoting anything personal here I’ll also talk a bit about Magento, which is a platform based on PHP and Mysql that you can install on your servers and connect to many eCommerce providers. Magento is an interface of an on-line store+cart that you can customize by yourself (using templates) or find many companies online that will provide you services such as install, manage your catalog, design plugins etc.
Hope it helps!
